Finding Reversal and Spike Bars

The last few weeks went into the NinjaTrader 8 update for the Auction Bars. Below is a quick summary of what this update is all about and how you can use it to identify reversal and spike bars with NinjaTrader 8. We also did a brief intro in a recent NinjaTrader webinar which you may watch here:

NinjaTrader 8 Update Summary:

The way the auction ranges, reversal- and spike bars are calculated is identical with what we offer in the NinjaTrader 7 version. However, in the NinjaTrader 7 version the Auction Ranges were sometimes painting back 1 bar of the secondary bar series. We originally opted for back painting, prior to the multi-timeframe version for the Auction Bars.

However, we generally do not favor any type of repainting and we therefore removed this for NinjaTrader 8 version. In any event, the repainting never affected the reversal bars themselves, and you will get exactly the same reversal bars with the new version as in the previous one.

In the NinjaTrader 8 version there is now also an option to display the actual trade signals which are validating the reversal bar candidates. Those signals were not displayed in the NinjaTrader 7 version. Also, we have entirely recoded the plot, and the Auction Bars for NinjaTrader 8 loads considerably faster than for NinjaTrader 7.
